Supraliminal Dreamcast – Image’s Incinvible

Supraliminal Dreamcast – Image’s Invincible

Welcome back to Supraliminal Dreamcast. While working on this intellectual property, I realized how hard it can be choosing the perfect cast for a large ensemble piece. Image’s Invincible written by Robert Kirkman is a perfect example of how one story can contain so many characters that you care about and relate to. I’ve taken 18 of what I believe to be the main cast of the first three trades and cast them with what I hope to be a great team of actors and actresses.

Mark/Invincible – My initial idea was to go with someone like Josh Hutchinson. His turn in Hunger Games seems to indicate that he could pull off this role; I just didn’t feel like he had the same look I wanted. Alex Pettyfer, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1641117/?ref_=sr_1, a young man who pulled off a decent spot in I Am Number 4. While this doesn’t mean he’s the best for this role by acting standards, I do believe he can perform well in this role as well have the look I wanted.

Debbie – This one I took a bit of a left turn. My original choice was Sally Field, but it seems like every time I begin writing one of these dream casts, I change my mind at the last minute. I’ve instead chosen Courteney Cox- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001073/?ref_=sr_4 -as my Debbie Grayson. She’s old enough to play the part while being young enough to not look like she’d be Mark’s grandmother.

Nolan/Omni Man – This took no thought. If you know the comic, then you know what I mean when I say Moustache. Tom Sellick- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000633/?ref_=sr_1 –is the moustache for this role, hands down.

William – Best friend of Mark. This seemed like a role that needed to be filled by a very capable and funny actor. Anton Yelchin- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0947338/?ref_=sr_1 –has a deft hand at this sort of role. Charlie Bartlett was an extremely well performed character.

Cecil – The scarred head of everything super hero at the Pentagon. Tommy Lee Jones- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000169/?ref_=sr_4 –has the exact look and sullen acting style that brings Cecil to life.

Donald – Donald is as Cecil’s assistant. He’s not in the trades a lot early, and his true greatness isn’t revealed until later. Richard Jenkins- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0420955/?ref_=sr_4 –is a perfect fit for the straight forward yet sarcastic tones Donald brings to the cast.

Art – A veteran of the super hero world. He is a costume making expert as well as Mark’s confidante early on other than Omni Man. I was looking for someone who could produce a bit of sage like advice but not take over the story with his acting. Malcolm McDowell- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000532/?ref_=sr_6 –is a fairly easy choice in my opinion. He can delivery exactly what I’m looking for my secondary advisor for Mark.

Atom Eve – This one, much like Mark, took a little while for me to settle on. At first I want to Hunger Games to look for Atom Eve. She’s a very important part of Mark’s entering the hero world as well as adulthood. With Josh Hutchinson came Jennifer Lawrence. When I went away from Josh, I felt as if Jennifer might hold too much presence against a lesser known actor like Alex Pettyfer. This led me to Debby Ryan- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2913275/?ref_=sr_1 –who is a young starlet on the Disney Channel. She has some descent comedic talent as well as having the look you’d want in a young super heroine.

Robot – This role was a bit easier for me to cast because there is no one you need to see. All you need for this is a great suit actor with some fighting experience and a great voice actor to bring the character to life. As for the fighting side, Ray Park- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0661917/?ref_=sr_6 –fits perfectly into this type of role. A great turn as Snake-Eyes as well as Darth Maul. For the voice acting side, I wanted a voice actor who could pull of a brainy yet funny tone. Rob Paulsen- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0667326/?ref_=sr_1 –is exactly what I wanted. He is the original snarky sarcastic Raphael and the current brainy Donatello.

Rex Splode – Max has pointed out that my two movies I’ve done so far have had quite a few younger roles. This made it hard for him and me to pick actors because we aren’t as familiar with them as older actors. The role of Rex Splode made me agree with him more than ever. It took me quite a while to settle on Logan Lerman- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0503567/?ref_=sr_4 –because I haven’t seen a lot of the younger action heroes at work. He has a quality performance as Percy Jackson.

Dupli-Kate – One of the easier choices. Though it seems too simple, Ellen Wong- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2771798/?ref_=sr_1 –is a perfect fit for this role. She has the ability to pull off some great fight choreography and look good doing it.

Mauler Twins – Thankfully this only requires one actor to fill this role, and I wanted an intimidating presence and a good voice. I felt like I got all of this in Kevin Durand- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0243806/?ref_=sr_1 –who has been a good big guy actor. I’m sure he’ll also be able to provide the intellectual side needed for guy who clones himself in order to more easily perform experiments.

Monster Girl – This was somewhat an obvious choice. Chloe Moretz- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1631269/?ref_=sr_4 –has the look and acting credentials to play a hero even at such a young age. She can play a foul mouth badass that looks to innocent at first glance.

Principal Winslow – In all honesty, had I not chosen Reginald VelJohnson- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001817/?ref_=sr_3 -for this role, I’d be serving and extremely large injustice to the man who the high school was named for in Invincible. Obvious really, no question.

Allen the Alien – I know it might seem a bit odd, but I’ve chosen to only go with a voice actor for Allen. I felt that a motion capture style character would fit this a bit better. The voice is the voice of legend. Frank Welker- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0919798/?ref_=sr_4 –is a perfect voice for a fighting alien.

Immortal – Liev Schreiber- www.imdb.com/name/nm0000630/?ref_=sr_2 –can pull off this role so long as he grows the same facial hair he had in Wolverine. That is one of the biggest needs for this role because the Immortal has extremely impressive mutton chops.

Shrinking Ray – Although he only appears in a few scenes towards the end of the third trade, Shrinking Ray is an amazing character and needs to be portrayed well. Bill Hader- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0352778/?ref_=sr_1 –won against Nathan Fillion in my mind only because Bill can play slightly nerdy while trying to be a hero. Nathan is recognized as being too much of a badass in my opinion.

Black Samson – Leonard Roberts- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0731346/?ref_=sr_3 –has the look of Black Samson. He’s been a super hero before and I personally really enjoyed his character in Heroes more than most of the other characters.

I meant for this to be done long ago, but I feel like the time I took made this work out well. I enjoy the accidental reunions I’ve managed to fit in to this. The ones I noticed almost immediately were Courteney Cox and Tom Sellick from Friends, Kevin Durand and Liev Schreiber from Wolverine, and Malcolm McDowell and Leonard Roberts from Heroes. This can help with chemistry in such a large ensemble cast. So were there any here that you’d change? Moreover are there any characters that deserve to be cast in this?
